Our Vision

We envision CENTRO as a SAFE space where the Latinx community and its allies can gather, learn and obtain the resources needed to thrive.

We have a vision where CENTRO has the STRONG infrastructure in place to serve the growing community so that our critical programs can SUSTAINABLY meet the needs of the community.
Make a Gift

Our goal

Our goal with campaign CENTRO is to raise 7 million dollars by 2023, our 40th anniversary.

Funds will be invested in three priority areas:

  1. A rebuild of our facility at its current location to make it safe for generations today and in the future
  2. Strategic expansion and strengthening of workforce and educational programs to serve the growing needs of the community
  3. Investment in critical infrastructure (products and people) to sustain the agency and increase efficiency in program delivery

The need

The plan

1. A complete rebuild of our facility at 810 West Badger Road

The building is unsafe for use (faulty HVAC systems, poor ventilation, lack of adequate fire exits) and we do not currently have enough space to accommodate all of our staff and programs. Our new building will add larger spaces for programming and classes as well as redesign office spaces so they are safe. Adequate parking will be added including accessible parking, as well as windows and exit doors. With these improvements we will increase safety and accessibility of Centro for the community, increase the number of families we can serve, and make it possible for additional programming to occur in our building which is currently at overcapacity.

2. Strategic investment in expansion and sustainability of Centro’s youth and workforce development programs.

These are critical areas where we are not able to meet the current needs of the community. We have chosen to focus on these areas because of highest need, potential for greatest impact and because, for our other areas of our work we have partnerships in place already that are vested in the sustainability and growth of these programs.

Youth Programs:
  • Double Juventud Middle School Program over the next five years from 4 to 8 schools within the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD).
  • Secure a 2nd college transition coordinator and high school internship program manager and provide seed funding for an endowment for the Centro Becas (scholarships) Program

Although 72% of Latinx youth in the United States graduate from high school, less than 40% complete a 4-year post-secondary degree. With this investment we will be able to serve an additional 100+ students a year and invest in critical pressure points -- the transition from middle to high school and from high school to college -- to support youth when they need it most.

Workforce Development:
  • Secure retention/advancement officer for workforce development program
  • Expand Caminos career Pathways Program by adding a Nursing track and additional capacity in our CNA program
  • Strengthen mental health training for bilingual case managers through a peer specialist certification.

This strategic investment has been developed in response to local/national increased need for healthcare workers, and mental health supports for the Latino community, especially those who are bilingual and culturally competent. Program expansion will enable us to double the number of participants each year, and enable better hiring, retention, and professional development.

3. Bolster the organizational infrastructure of Centro the agency to assure sustainability
  • Strategic investment in administration, operations and partnership coordination
  • Development of technology & communication tools
  • A minimum of six months of reserves.

We need this to sustain support for our growing program staff and strategically grow partnerships that will allow us to fully meet our vision of a thriving vibrant Latino community. Centro IS the leading non-profit for the Latinx community and the agency is essential for ensuring a strong Dane County community.

The plan

Our goal with Campaign CENTRO is to raise 7 million dollars between now and December 2022 to make Centro safe, strong and sustainable for generations now and in the future.
