Sunday Summer Fun: Mercadito in the back lot of Centro!
You won't want to miss Sunday afternoons this summer at Centro!
Every Sunday, from June 4th - Sept 24th 1:30-4:30 PM Centro will host its popular Mercadito in Centro's back lot off of Hughes Place.
Mercadito is not your traditional farmer's market -- modeled on the mercaditos you find in Latin America it brings together culinary experiences with entertainment the whole family can enjoy! Some of the things to look forward to include live cooking demonstrations and food sampling, fun and free activities for children, local products and produce on sale, musical and dance performances, monthly outdoor family movies in Spanish (with subtitles) and more! So bring your family and friends and plan to join us every Sunday for Mercadito!
Summer Mercadito Calendar of Events coming soon!
ABOUT EL MERCADITO DE CENTRO
El Mercadito’s mission is to offer an open and healthy place where members of Madison’s Southside community can share their cultural heritage and culinary traditions. The market complements current efforts to bring healthy food to the Southside, by adding extra ingredients that will help break some of the barriers and challenges community members face in accessing healthy foods. This community market mimics those in Latin America, Bhutan, and Laos- where the markets are more than a place for transactions and sightseeing, they are places where aromas are mixed with a sense of home and security.

TASTES OF EL MERCADITO WITH CHEF ANA BRITO
Ana Brito immigrated to Madison in 2003 and has since worked on creating mouth-watering dishes. By cooking and sharing her dishes, she transports herself to her native Venezuela and recreates memories with her family and neighborhood. As a mother of two and working part-time, she is busy, but her passion for teaching people how to cook healthy and easy recipes is always a priority on her schedule. Centro was blessed to have Ana teaching cooking demos during El Mercadito in 2015 and we hope to have her back this year- with new and tasty recipes.
