More Evenings of Dreaming... coming in 2023

7th EVENING Of DREAMING (2022) - ABOUT OUR NEW HOME

On September 28th, in the middle of the parking lot and with an attendance of over a hundred people, Centro kicked off a public fundraising campaign and announced a $2.5 million gift from Ascendium Education Group for its $20 million new home on Madison’s South Side.
This Evening of Dreaming was the first big in person event we had and we celebrated the fundraising announcement to build a new facility and provide seed money for programming that will make Centro a more inviting, larger hub for culture, education, training and celebrations for the fast-growing Hispanic community.
We had the opportunity to show the renderings to the public with a colorful, two-story, 25,000-square-foot building and large indoor/outdoor plaza, outdoor fountain and underground parking on an acre of land.

6th EVENING Of DREAMING (2021) - DECOLONIZING DINNER

Decolonizing Dinner, focused on the importance of traditional foods to our culture, why it is important to rethink our connection to agriculture, and how food is grown and cooked, as a form of advocacy and a re-commitment to indigenous food ways and the preservation of our identity and roots. This interactive virtual event provided the opportunity to participate in a candid conversation about food appropriation, colonialism and activism in the context of native culture. The featured dinner ingredient was Zea mays (maize or corn).

5th EVENING OF DREAMING (2020) - HERENCIA

We do not want others to speak for us. With the 5th Annual Evening of Dreaming - Herencia we sought to give real meaning to the pre-Hispanic tradition Dia de los Muertos by giving voice to the indigenous people and to citizens of countries where this celebration began. You can still learn about our cultures, recognize our ancestors, and celebrate with us by viewing the videos on our Facebook page.
