Thursday December 2nd, 2021 6:00 PM Virtual Event
The Evening of Dreaming is an annual event focused on showcasing the diversity of our Latino cultures in thought-provoking and whimsical ways. Now in its 6th year, the Evening of Dreaming is an important cultural event for the community -- in past years we have hosted award winning author Reyna Grande, cutting-edge filmmaker Philip Rodriguez, local artists and chefs for a Pop-Up exhibition, and the popular band Las Cafeteras.
This year's event, Decolonizing* Dinner, focuses on the importance of traditional foods to our culture, why it is important to rethink our connection to agriculture, and how food is grown and cooked, as a form of advocacy and a re-commitment to indigenous food ways and the preservation of our identity and roots. This interactive virtual event will provide the opportunity for you to participate in a candid conversation about food appropriation, colonialism and activism in the context of native culture. The featured dinner ingredient will be Zea mays (maize or corn).
The event will feature live cooking and conversations alongside our special guests renowned chefs, activist and food lovers Chef Elena Terry and Chef Anthony Gallarday. Our guests will be joined in a conversation by hosts Karen Menendez Coller, Centro's Executive Director and Luke Zahm, host of PBS Foodie Wisconsin.
The event will be hosted virtually due to COVID 19 by PBS Wisconsin and is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $20/person. Registration is required and you will be prompted to create a OVEE account to attend (see below).
*Decolonizing:Taking back our power, through a return to using traditional ways/ foods in our diet because we recognize that the loss of our native traditions has intentionally and detrimentally impacted the well-being people of color in the United States today.

5th EVENING OF DREAMING (2020) - HERENCIA
We do not want others to speak for us. With the 5th Annual Evening of Dreaming - Herencia we sought to give real meaning to the pre-Hispanic tradition Dia de los Muertos by giving voice to the indigenous people and to citizens of countries where this celebration began. You can still learn about our cultures, recognize our ancestors, and celebrate with us by viewing the videos on our Facebook page.
