Escalera Summer Internship Program
The Escalera Summer Internship Program intends to empower our Latino youth in their path to higher education while exposing them to professional experience in a field of their interest. Centro seeks out Latino leaders in different businesses and organizations in the Madison area, who serve as mentors for our youth during and after the internship program. The Escalera Summer Internship Program’s goal is to increase academic success and promote access to advanced careers for Latinx youth.
Each summer, incoming seniors have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Internship Program. Students spend 12 hours a week for 7 weeks at their internship sites. Additionally, students attend and participate in the summer learning and professional development sessions 4 hours a week for 8 weeks. Sessions include workshops on college preparation, career awareness, and professional development, as well as intermittent fieldtrips to Wisconsin colleges, local businesses, museums and more.
If you are interested in becoming a partner and hosting one of our talented interns, please contact Maria Paula Lujum, Youth Programs Manager, at mariapl@micentro.org.
