The 6th Evening of Dreaming

Thursday December 2nd, 2021
6:00 PM
virtual event

This annual event is focused on showcasing the diversity of our Latino cultures in thought-provoking and whimsical ways.

This year join us for an interactive cooking demonstration and conversation with leading Latinx and BIPOC chefs where we will learn about how our American food system has been colonized, how we can disrupt that system, and what we can do to honor and preserve the foodways of native and rightful inhabitants.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

The Evening of Dreaming is one of Centro Hispano of Dane County (Centro)’s annual signature events.  The event is focused on showcasing the diversity of our Latino cultures in thought-provoking and whimsical ways. Now in its 6th year, the Evening of Dreaming is an important cultural event for the community -- in past years we have hosted award winning author Reyna Grande, cutting-edge filmmaker Philip Rodriguez, local artists and chefs for a Pop-Up exhibition, and the popular band Las Cafeteras.

This year, we invite you to participate in the Decolonizing Dinner. Join us as we bring together chefs, food lovers and activists who are calling into question the food we see and eat as we attempt to provoke a conversation about the colonization of food and food pathways . This interactive virtual event will provide the opportunity for you to cook alongside our chefs while listening to and participating in a candid conversation about food appropriation, colonialism and activism in the context of native culture. The featured ingredient of dinner will be Zea mays (maize or corn).

Past Evening of Dreaming Events

5th EVENING OF DREAMING (2020) - HERENCIA

We do not want others to speak for us. With the 5th Annual Evening of Dreaming - Herencia we sought to give real meaning to the pre-Hispanic tradition Dia de los Muertos by giving voice to the indigenous people and to citizens of countries where this celebration began. You can still learn about our cultures, recognize our ancestors, and celebrate with us by viewing the videos on our Facebook page.
